Default Seat belt buckle button

Does anyone know how to remove the red button from the seat belt buckle without breaking it?

I've seen the Youtube clips for the flat topped buttons but that are a different fitting

I've been told the two black covers slide apart but mine don't have any movement when I tried to slide them apart

Are they just sticking and won't release the belt?
I had this on the front passenger seat, used a spray lube, not WD40, been okay since

They are working fine, I want to remove the buttons to try and make them red again instead of the faded pink colour they are now

Fading of these red buttons goes back to the Amazon days so good luck with that. I'd just try some abrasive polish and then one of the plastic revivers that don't have black dye in them. Red shoe paint if you are desperate!

Hold them upside down as much as possible, wet sand with a bit of 1200 wet and dry, clean out all the gunge around the edge with tissue paper and a cocktail stick and treat with Gtechniq C4 - job jobbed.
