Default Drivers Seat Airbag Fault

VOLVO S40 SE DIRECT INJECTION SALOON 1834CC (2001) PETROL MANUAL

The dashboard SRS warning light is indicating a fault on the system. I've had it checked by the garage and been advised that there is no 'resistance' in the airbag. The seat airbag needs replacing to remove the fault but I'm unable to find a new seat.

However, I have located a passenger seat online that is for sale and was wondering if the airbags are the same in both seats and if the bag in the passenger seat could be removed and used to replace the faulty one in the drivers seat.

If anyone knows where I may be able to locate replacement seat it would be appreciated.

Does any know if the vehicle will fail an MOT with the fault light showing. I know that driver safety is compromised with the fault but it will give me more time to locate a replacement seat if the MOT isn't an issue.

Thanks

Airbag warning light is a straight fail, not sure about the interchangeability of airbags so procced with caution.

I am afraid they are sided. They are very rare to fail. The most common problem is the actual connector under the seat. If the SRS light cannot be reset, then unplugging and plugging in the connector 3-4 times, and then attempting a reset with a suitable reader, seems to resolve the problem most of the times.

However, since your garage has checked the resistance of the airbag and couldn't find any, you may be very unlucky and have the first failed seat airbag. If you can't source an airbag, let me know and I will see if I can get one

Thanks for the information. I had sourced and ordered a replacement airbag but then received a reply from the supplier to state that the website was incorrect as the item can't be sent via postal system given the explosive nature of the item. I'm going to speak to local dealer to see if they are able to supply but it may cost more than the car is worth.

Don't replace an expensive airbag on guesswork until you have inspected every centimeter of the wires around the seat

It's nearly always the connector or the cables where they flex

There is a 2 ohm "fuse" that you can buy on fleaBay for a few quid that you fit in the connector under the seat that fools the SRS unit into thinking the air bag is good. A bodgit n scarper but would get your car through the MOT and buy you some time.
It worked for me, got 3 for a tenner i think.
