Default C30 Reduced Engine Performance - Again!

Hi all, long time no Volvo...

Currently got a c30 2009 1.6d that has started showing Reduced engine performance message again after I put my foot down and whipped it round a roundabout after picking up an Indian. Take away, not person.

Had this pop up a while ago which if I remember rightly was linked to my accelerator peddle sensor, and revs idling at 1500rpm. Cleaning the ECM I think it is, under dash in passengers foot well, with contact cleaner sorted the problem out. However, this time round there are no probs with accelerator peddle and revs, just this message. I do notice a bit of a delay in acceleration when I put my foot down, like it hesitates.

I plugged my DICE in today and there are a few errors relating to climate control and audio information panel, but the one that looks most likely is "Glow relay control - faulty signal". Is this related to spark plug(s)?

I have read on hear that other had issues with exhaust temp sensors, oil pressure sensor, and fuel filter, so am tempted to replace those as well because I am assume relatively cheap?

The things that concern me is reading about blocked DPF pipe for 1. Do all Volvo's have a DPF pipe, how can I check? And can this be cleared simply by going for a long drive? I only do very short journeys at the moment, which I thought might not be good for the car at all.
The other things were; air filter to turbo hose being split... I dont know if my car has got a turbo, has it? It doesn't drive like its got one anyway. A split air filter pipe, but couldn't see anything, and would this cause reduced engine performance? If yes, then what about a lose connection between the air filter and the radiator? I try and attach some photos, but there are 2 screws missing I think from when the garage removed my bumper, twice, to fit a new horn after an MOT fail, and they didn't replace them. Assuming they were there in the first place.

A little help from you knowledgeable people will be very much appreciated.

Thanks

the 2 fixings are not screws but plastic rivits . there are no sparkplugs on a diesel. yes you will have a turbo . failed glow plugs can hinder dpf regens check your eloys tank has fluid clear all codes go for a drive and re read codes see if any return

Thanks Simmy,
So are those plastic rivets important? Im guessing it will inhibit efficiency having it lose like that?

Diesels dont have spark plugs! Haha... can you tell this is my first diesel lol.
Ah... glow plug isn't a spark plug, thats what through me.

And... eloys tank? Is that a typo...

Hi Simmy,

Today I cleared all codes and went for a drive and there is only one error that keeps popping up; ECM-6620 Glow relay control - faulty signal.

Im assuming this means accessing the ECM and cleaning the relay with some contactor spray first? Is this a relatively easy job once the wheel is removed?

Ahh... just thought, I changed my alloys a few months ago and stood on the wheel brace to tighten on, and stripped the nuts a little bit, just enough so I cant get a 19mm socket on them properly because I twisted the hex shape or something... it was only one wheel but just so happens its the nearside front!!!

What about just changing the glow plugs first?

Also with regards to the DPF, I noticed in my manual where I write my notes Ive written:
ADM additive dosing module (DPF check) - Ready

I check the hidden menu again and its still ADM - Ready, so does this indicate that the DPF is OK?
Looking at a YouTube video how to top up the eloys tank looks like a bit of a nightmare tbh.

If I where to put money on it I think one of your glow plugs is broken in the engine as this happened to me. Really hard to find someone in the end to drill it out but I did. If this is the case let me know and I shall give you the garages details.

Hi Batlamb...

Drill it out? Cant they just be unscrewed like spark plugs on a petrol? Im sure on Vida it said the the torque size.

No as Glow Plugs are like long sticks and when broken they can stick to the engine. You might be lucky and this might not be the case.

Oh I see... did you have a glow plug error code/message come up on the dash? Or the Reduced Engine Performance message?

Thanks

Do you know if "ADM - Ready" on the hidden menu indicates that the DPF is OK?

I have writen in my notes previously ADM (additive dosing module) (DPF check) - Ready, meaning everything ok. And the hidden menu still says ADM - Ready.

Thanks
