Default Volvo V8 Transplant?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows whether the Volvo v8 unit would fit into any of the P3 platform cars? E.g. would the s80 v8 engine (& gearbox) slot into an xc70 or xc60? Just a thought ...

Don't know about the XC60, but given the S80/XC70 and V70 share the same platform then I'd imagine the V8 would drop in. Someone put the V8 engine in a P1 S40 once.

That must have involved the world's largest shoehorn!

I’ve always wondered that. Would want to do it on a P2 XC70 though, not a P3.

You could make a beast of an off-roader if you dropped it into a jacked up P2 XC70.... :-)

With regard to the S40 transplant - that platform has known cooling issues (which is why the T5 is a shandy version with around 30 BHP less) so the would have been a real challenge.

Or... how about dropping it into a really nice stock looking 240 Estate??

Ah, I’d want it to look absolutely stock, would want it to draw attention to itself other than the tailpipes and then the noise it made if you really pressed on.

A V8 240 would be a splendid thing. Starting to wonder what the bell housing bolt pattern is and what RWD gearboxes might fit!

Didn't Volvo produce an XC70 or 90 V8 using the same 4.4 V8 Yamaha engine?

If so you could buy one ready-made................

Toyota/Lexus 1UZ engine and A340E auto box - the box is near-identical to the AW7x boxes as fitted to later 240s etc, a guy in the Netherlands (i think) even produces engine and gearbox mounts and has already done this conversion, others are doing similar and have done around the globe.

Gives you a 4.0 V8 with 250+bhp easily and is surprisingly economical, even in it's original host car.

Too easy. It’s a cracking engine - I saw a build where one went into a late 70’s Camry estate (keeping it in the family) and someone (in Aus or NZ) put one in an Avenger estate.

The Yamaha/Volvo V8 appeals because of the family connection I guess.
