Stuck in 1st
Hi folks
Here is something I put down to a 1 off but, it's deffo more than that, especially after about 6 times... If it give it big licks in 1st, it will not change gear, it will just bounce off the red until I back off the throttle, then it will change to second or allow me to tronic its ass, thats right, i cannot up change in manual either, unless i backoff the throttle. There is nothing in Vida that points to anything other than the mirror(s) potentiometers. I am sure you can understand, this i quite dangerous, more so when i dont hesitate from a junction etc, having to back off makes the car ya just nipped in front off get far too close for comfort :/

If so, i'd suspect the kickdown cable has become snagged, often caused by letting go of the loud pedal suddenly from a wide open position. If not and it's only in 1st that it does it, i'd suspect a few other things, not necessarily in order but gear select switch (assuming it's an electronically controlled box), TPS (Throttle Position Switch), engine speed sensor, road speed sensor (or similar) in the gearbox and possibly something else. With the throttle at rest, there should be a small amount of slack in the kickdown cable, if there isn't then i'd check to see if it has got snagged, perhaps on the quadrant on the throttle spindle or what would pass as the throttle spindle on a diesel.

I will also do the Vida check too, just to be sure, The reason i said it was ok before was that no issues relating to this has ever shown and i have certainly put Vida on after an event, 100% on that, but i will do it after the test...

I've just read a pdf which confirms the same - you must manually shift up.
down shifting is automatic

Not my box, mines the other TF-80SC, 6 speed plus, in manual mode, it shouldnt auto up shift at all as its not in automatic, you have to knock the gearstick to up change, although it will automatically downshift if the speed is below a set speed, like it says for the AW55-50.

It sounds as if there's a module or sensor that might be faulty, possibly the Transmission Control Module. It sounds as if the module/sensor isn't telling the transmission to shift.
Has the transmission had a fluid service? Is the fluid level correct? No banging or clunking into gears? Transmission software ever been updated?

The kickdown cable is a good one, possibly snagged somewhere. My other suggestion would be a bad solenoid inside the valve body? That's a bit of a wild one I admit, but its a potential culprit. What Bashy is experiencing does sound dangerous. Without stating the obvious, it needs investigating as soon as possible because its not normal. Any good transmission places near you Bashy? Its worth a visit & hopefully you can replicate exactly what's happening on a short drive.
