Default 2011 V50 R-Design D4

Hi,

Just bought the above car, lovely and goes like stink but I have a few questions about the brakes & suspension.

This thing has huge front brakes, they look twice the size of the ones on my old V50 2.0D, don’t get me wrong they work brilliantly but whenever I look up for front pads it offers me the std V50 ones. Can anyone shed any light on what I have fitted?

I have some suspension twangs going on when turning on an incline at very slow speeds, both sides. Thinking it may be anti-roll bar bushes sticking or worn, or maybe drop-links. Can’t see any issues with the springs, but not had it on the jack yet.

Is there any differences in the R-Design springs/shocks to the other trim models?

Any help appreciated,

Thanks,
Craig

Unless you have aftermarket brakes you will most likely have 300mm at most as I think the larger ones were saved for the T5. But again without any photo's or crystal balls, I cannot guess or shed any light on what you have.

With your suspension twangs, pobably check your drop links. Common issue on these oem springs is they do tend to crack.

Yes there is a small difference. The R does have more sportier suspension but it really isnt that much of a difference.

I had a 08 V50 D5 R design.

It had 320mm brakes.

I bet you have the same. Get the tape measure out!!

They were epic on such a small car.

I've looked on VIDA and it does list 320mm brakes as a possibility for your car so it is likely it has them.

I went from my V50 D5 with 320mm to my V60 D3 with 300mm brakes.... Needless to say I wasn't as pleased with their performance so I changed them to xc90 336mm ones..... They work rather well now!!

Broken rear springs can be a common issue. They will rattle nicely...

Thanks for the info

It’s defo coming from the front of the car though, also twangs on full lock either direction.

Previous owner said it hand done mostly motorway miles, it had also been stood for a month before I picked it up. Only had it 2 weeks tomorrow

Twanging can also be a seized top mount on the strut..... this should turn smoothly when steering but if seized will go in a series of notches accompanied with said twang!

Can be checked if you jack the front up and try turning the wheel.
