Cheers Bob.
I've already had them replaced. The tool was too expensive for the use that it'd get, so I figured it'd be best to let a garage do it that already had the equipment.

I've had to replace both the bushings and the springs at the rear end of my XC70. Car has been in service for ten years in a few months. 325000 km so far.

I paid £100 for the bush tool, used - heavy to post !

I would be interested on feedback from anyone who has fitted poly-bushes, as these could be easier to fit and more durable.
Here they are:

I'm not sure about the poly bushes for the rear trailing arms. Using poly bushes for the control arms seemed to be popular though, particularly on the older P2 models. The poly bush inserts for the subframe were also popular.

Poly bushes are harder than the standard rubber bushings fitted to the car though.

in reply to 100k+ first question i had the bushes replaced 4yrs ago at 340k miles but i think they had been gone for a while before that until i discovered through this forum what the noises i had been getting was. Volvo indy fitted them and said they fell to pieces when removed. I now have 510k on the clock and have been getting those noises again for a while so will have to replace them,if the ones i had replaced were the modified ones then i am not sure if 150k mostly motorway miles would be considered an acceptable mileage to go again.

I'm 65, so 150K would well see me out of the car.
Originally, I thought these bushings were failing at 3yr / 45K mile intervals. From feedback here it appears I could have been worrying for nothing. Although that said, the only fault in 6ys/50K miles has been a snapped rear N/S spring.

Cheers
Bob

Wow!

I paid £132 delivered for my (brand new) Sealey VSE4787. Perhaps it depends where you buy?

The videos show you how its done on a Mondeo - some additional work is necessary on the V70, but its straightforward enough. I did both my rear bushes and still have the tool for my wife's car when I get round to it.

Was thinking of looking into mine as they probably due now on 140K never been done, got a warning from a health check at volvo but then again they couldn't even put the correct tyre/wheel size on the report or even make of tyres on same axel!!!
