Always used K&N panel filters simply because within four services the filter has paid for its self.

I have bought cars with a Pipercross filters already fitted in the past and the quality of the filter is nowhere near as good as a K&N.

Air filter 40k miles or 4 years. Of course you can change it more frequently if you think it necessary.

Does anyone actually have test data to demonstrate that these panel filters offer any improved performance and that this performance is maintained over the life of the improved panel filter.

The volume flow rates for an engine are large hence high velocity hence pressure drop (being a squared function) could seem to be considerably better. Granted I don’t expect massive performance differences but the theory for improved efficiency, pick up and performance is there. It would also appear that it is less wasteful than throwing out paper filters.

However dirt loading is not good for efficiency and these panel filters are stating 40K between cleans which sounds insane.

Does anyone know? I believe it to be snake oil myself.
