Wheel bolts don’t fit spacesaver

Hi all,

I tried to change a tyres on my 2008 V70 and the alloy wheel bolts don’t fit the Space Saver..
They protrude out a couple of mm causing the SS to wobble on the hub.

Is this normal? Should there be a 2nd set of bolts for the SS?
If so what size of bolt?

The normal ones should fit. Do you know where the space saver came from? Maybe it's not OEM. I remember when I used the space saver on my '57 S40, the bolts fit okay, just looked odd due to the tapered washer that usually sits flush in the alloy actually sitting straight against the outside of the space saver. Sort of like |< (best I can do with special characters!)

Likewise. Only had to use the SS once on my daughter’s 2011 XC70. It was awful but the same wheel bolts fitted, albeit as js90 has described.

Thanks for the reply, from what you are saving I bet the SS isn’t the original wheel.
I’ll look into a spacer or new SS

Thanks for the reply, from what you are saving I bet the SS isn’t the original wheel.

...does not the wheel hub to which the wheel bolts are fastened have "through holes" in the mounting plate, and if so should not the bolts just keep going until they bed down on the SS.??
If this is so whats stopping your bolts going fully home??

The bolts appear to be too long, there is a couple of mm of threaded bolt that protrudes through the SS when the bolt is tight in the hub, this causes the wobble.

Either the bolts are too long (maybe aftermarket from before I bought the car) or the SS is not the right version and the bolt holes are too deep in the wheel.
