Default 11-18 S60 T4 economy

Hi All,

I've searched this forum but haven't found much info on the S60 T4's fuel economy (B416T engine in my case, I believe), mostly just on diesel models.

Mine currently shows 9.7km/l on the dash (own records concur), which feels kind of terrible. I bought the car hoping to get at least 11!
Officially I believe it is advertised as 13.5km/l, with some real world tests getting 10.7km/l.

I'd like to hear what other's have experienced with their T4's?
I'm wondering to what extent a poor fuel economy could be indicative of an engine issue.

It's worth a look here:

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/real-mpg/

But bare in mind these are UK submissions so different driving conditions / temperature etc

Over a tank mine is usually between 32-35mpg. It’s way below the advertised figures but a fairly small engine in a big car has to work quite hard I guess.

Thanks for the link Easington. That was actually quite insightful!

I learnt there is a differentiation between the S60 T4 and the S60 T4 Powershift (which I have), as well as a big difference in economy.
Based on this chart, mine is probably doing almost decent on the spectrum. Like you say, external factors may be at play, like the approximate 1750m altitude and always-on aircon

With the new info I found useful links I missed before, like this https://www.car.info/en-se/volvo/s60...2-184271/specs
Seems around 10km/l or 23.5mpg for the S60 T4 Powershift is quite common.

I see you have an S60 T4 R design. If I'm not mistaken, that makes yours a 6 cylinder 3 liter model? That mileage doesn't sound half bad for that model.

In the UK it was a 180bhp 1.6 turbo. I know some countries had uprated engines in the R Designs but sadly not here! The T4 is now a 2 litre turbo with 190 bhp

That's quite interesting to hear. It sounds like your T4 R design is roughly equivalent to the local T5 in South Africa.
Seems like my S60 T4 isn't entirely as similar to the UK version as I first expected!
