Default Rear side window demister strips...on one side only?

As I was cleaning my V90's windows this evening (I've had a boring day) I noticed only the near side window has the heat strips...not the offside.

Does anyone know why?!

Probably an antenna and not heated.

As above, they are aerials. There are several to cover the various frequencies used for different radio bands (and TV if fitted).

Ah ha - thanks both. That explains it then. They just looked to me like the same stuff that is on the back window...which it could well be.

Super!

As others have said it’s the radio antenna. It’s the same on my V50 too

Many many many modern vehicles of all makes and models use multiple antennas these days

FM is now common in the rear quarter windows, with AM sometimes still integrated into the rear demister

Modern on-glass antennas are more reliable and maintenance free as nothing can be broken

From a pureist point of view they don't work quite as well as a good old fashioned whip antenna

The first car I owned with a side window aerial was my 1998 Volvo V90 3.0ltr estate, I have had several since then.

I am not sure how it is in current day cars, but in the XC70 the wires were glass break sensors.
Only one side also had antenna wires.

My 1997 BMW had on-glass antennas for LW, AM, FM, and TV.
Yes! LW and even analogue TV!
It was a great car....
