Question v70 2.5d

Hello need urgent assistance n wondering if anyone out there can help. Dads v registered V70 2.5D(done 170k) threw injection pump belt off. Engine management light came on. Old timing belt was slack. I checked camshaft timing which was ok and then fitted new camshaft belt, water pump and tensioner. Then fitted new fuel pump belt and tesioners. Problem now is poor starting plus white smoke, have altered fuel pump timing by adjusting both tensioners, cant get it perfect any sugestions. Thanks MBS. PS any clues on how to get rid of engine management light.

The only way to time this engine is using the dealer diagnostic equipment.

Sounds like the pump timing is off. The pump timing is critical on these engines and it has to be set dynamically. It's really a job for the main dealer or a good independant diesel specialist, although there are some people on this forum who do have the necessary kit to do it themselves.

Once the pump timing is correct, assuming there are no other problems, the fault codes can be cleared and the engine management light should then go out.

Pump timing issues are well documented on the forum and make a huge difference to how well this engine starts and runs.

Hope this is of some help
