Default Help with the horn........

I'm probably missing something obvious but here goes......

My 98 S40 1.8 is mute. Not a peep. Stock standard fitting. On a multimeter I get 6.7v measured at both horn connectors when the wheel centre is depressed. Fuse is OK. Is there a relay involved that might be at fault or is there a known "issue"?

Hope someone can help this newbie.

Had the same problem with Mrs mitt's punto. Cleaned the male and female connectors on the horn and crimped them slightly with some pliers to ensure a tight fit, then gave the actual horn itself a dose of WD-40. Hey presto...she got the horn!
Hope this helps.

Default No improvement

Tried the connectors and WD40 but still no noise. I assume the horns operate at 12v. As I'm only gettign 6.7v I think its more likely to be wiring, relay, steering wheel issue.

Any other thoughts anyone before it goes to the garage?

Regards

I had a problem with one of mine, there was current going thru the live but not the earth (if that makes sense). A main dealer said that the earth for some reason was routed under the radiator and often got corroded, so suggested I bypass the duff one and route a new bit of cable from the good horn, hey presto it worked, not have both the high and low tones working as normal.

It's a common problem. It lies with the connectors under the steering wheel.
My mate removed the steering wheel centre (careful of the airbag) which exposed the contact ring, gave them a good clean and no problems since.
If you're going to do that I think the securing screws for the centre are on the rear of the wheel facing the dash. Needed a long thin extension with a torx bit to remove them.
