07> V70 estate towbar bumper cut out
I'm still looking for a removable towbar for my V70 R-Design 09plate.
I have two options: Buy from Volvo for £600 or Buy a witter supply and fit £300 But I have an issue with cutting a section out of my rear bumper, do I spend less and have a visible cut out or pay double the price and get a cover plate that connects to towbar when not in use? Does anyone have any photos of the kind of cutout thats needed, I dont want it to look awful. Davie

dont cut the bumper on a new car except as a last resort.have you tried all the other towbar makers.surely someone must do a bar that needs no mods.dont forget volvo dont make towbars so they must be getting it from an approved t/bar maker.also some main stealers will bring in a contract t/bar fitter to do the job and then add a couple of hundred pounds onto the job for doing nothing.i had a t/bar fitted to my xc90 at home buy the same guy who did the job for volvo.it was over £500 cheaper.
peter.

When I checked the Witter website for a towbar for prospective 2010 V70 purchase, their detachable bar needed a cut out in the "bumper" that was underneath and not visible unless you lay on the road and peered upwards.
Volvo bars I have had before were Brink ones. The R-design sits lower though and may need different bar to "standard" V70 |

Yup! That's the one I looked at. I looked at Witter bars at the NEC Caravan show in February and I think they have upped their game compared to bars I got from them in the 70s.
I'd be really interested to hear how you get on with it being fitted when you can. I only mentioned the ride height thing because when I had a 2000 V70 XC (before they changed the nomenclature to XC70) I had the devil's own job to get a bar to suit the raised ride height and had to buy a Volvo bar from the dealer. Annoyingly it was a Brink bar unavailable from any Brink retailer. Apparently Volvo forbade its sale except through dealers. But anyway, being a bit nose down is OK compared to nose up. I thought Witter offered a bespoke wiring loom? There's a part number on their website for one.

Get the Volvo loom - buy from Simon at FRF and if it's anything like XC90 looms it's cheaper than the non Volvo ones ( e.g XC90 7 pin was £50 from Volvo vs £100 from towequipe)

Fitting any wiring loom other than volvo will invalidate the waranty
The Witter control unit is not designed to work inconjunction with the volvo rear fog light I have opted for the witter detachable towbar being fitted on 1st May I have already purchased the Volvo loom at £12 and the Volvo control unit at £37,, this unit must be programed to work with the fog light at a cost of £60!! Total cost of £409 fitted I'll post some photos when fitted, im still curious about the cut out but fitter has assured me its unoticable

Towbar fitted yesterday and was very happy with the discreet fit tho wasnt so happy with the fitter that forgot to replug the parking sensor that took me a tricky 15mins to do.
Volvo electric loom fitted in an easy 2mins and cost £12 from volvo Control unit (£37) is being fitted and programed tomorrow for another cost of £60 All in not too bad. Now I can get back out on my motocrosser Photos below of the witter removable on my 58 R-design
