305bhp / 440Nm Tuning Package (2001 V40 T4)

Well, I had the MTE (TME) / Kalmar Union custom ECU tuning package done to my car too and am totally elated with the results, well who wouldn't be with 305bhp and 440Nm on tap? :-)

The results are a culmination of the joint efforts of Stuart Williams of SW Autos, who did a fantastic job in getting everything fitted within a timeframe which would be impossible for most, Marco Alsterfalk's mapping skills and Don Norchi's (Kalmar Union) kindness in getting everything organised. Marco also managed to sort out a problem which had both Volvo and my local dealer totally stumped for the last 2 years. Within a very short span of time, it became quite apparent that he has access to programs which have been used for software development by Volvo themselves, which probably explains why is so highly respected within Volvo itself. I was quite astonished that this was actually considered to be quite a 'conservative' map, I'd hate to think what the 'aggressive' one is like!! ;-)

The best thing about the car now is the driveability, coupled with the power and torque range available. Even with the 19T, boost was developed from as low as 2000rpm and by 3000rpm, we were already well past the peak torque from the stock setting. Hence, with proper mapping, a 19T is anything but 'laggy'. In terms of driving dynamics, the car pulls just as well low down in the rev range and peak boost of 1.6bar was easily sustained right up to 7000rpm at 0.8 lambda. The only thing that spoils the fun now is the rev limiter kicking in at 7200rpm!

Anyway, rather than me trying to describe what it is like, I hope to make it for the next few meets (eg. Crooked Billet etc.), so that anyone who is interested can get a feel of how the car drives.

Watch out all those unsuspecting drivers of Rs and T5s! - I wonder what the power to weight ratio is :-)

I think even if the R and T5 drivers are suspicious, it'll still blow the doors off of them lol

pyaap what's the weight of your V40 till we have a go at working out the power to weight ratio?

With me in it, it will break the scales!!! :-)

I've no idea to be honest, but my previous S40 weighed in at exactly 1400kg on a Dept of Transport weighbridge, so I guess it will be somewhere around there. Need to start dieting straight away.... ;-)
