I'm pretty sure that the XC90 is like the V70, the door modules can't just be swapped. They are programmed to the car, something to do with the locking. Certain parts can be swapped between modules.

I would suggest you find out if your problem is wiring or the module. The first thing I would check is to see if there is definitely power getting to the door module, it could be something as simple as a fuse blown.

Did you check with a multimeter?

That's a good start. It's a little bit more difficult to check if the module is getting CANBus signals, do you know anybody with a Volvo specific code reader or Vida? Although the door module is basically a glorified switch unit it will show a fault code if anything is wrong with the module or the main ECU can't communicate with it.

Something else you could try in the meantime, take the connectors off the door module and check for corrosion. Some electrical contact cleaner won't do any harm. Also check the wiring harness between the door and the A-pillar, there's another connector under the rubber where the wiring enters the car.

Check the ground wires in the loom as well
