Exclamation Fuel filter i think

I have been given a v70xc and, with 12 months MOT . X reg 162788 miles.
A few quirks, power steering leaks.. no biggy i have liquid.

When filling up with petrol if the engine is off the car will not start ..mm
Was advised to keep the engine on when filling up.. is this an issue with the fuel filter or pump?

Whats your thought

You could try a fuel filter change... its cheap.

It sounds like it could be a problem with the EVAP system, maybe a purge valve?

When you add fuel to the car, does the trigger on the nozzle at the petrol station keep clicking off when you're trying to add fuel into the tank?

Diagnostics may help you identify any underlying fault codes.

If the fuel pump was bad, you'd struggle to start the car pretty much all the time & not just when you added fuel with the engine off.

Its not a wise idea to leave the car running when adding fuel, especially petrol!

No issue at all when filling up..
Only if I turn the engine off. can takes a while and a lot or paticence to start, as if air gets into the fuel.
Car start Evey time

Sounds like a bad purge valve to me, but I'd suggest diagnostics before buying parts. Watch this video;

Your purge valve be either in the same place as in the video, or it could be near the fan. A new valve is around £40, but buy a genuine Volvo one.

As I said above, get the codes read before replacing parts. Otherwise, you could be just wasting money when it could be another issue.

Replacing the fuel filter is neither here nor there, so you could do that anyway because its not an expensive part. As for the purge valve, see if there's any fault codes first that relate to it before buying a new one.
