Default V50 radio

New to volvo and the forum. Hope to contribute and not just lurk. My 05 V50 radio will not work. The CD player does, but I can't get any stations to play. I've reset the radio to factory settings and that didn't work. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kate

Stupid question perhaps, but you have selected the FM band button on the radio?

Regards

Chris

Not stupid, but yes I have. I Have reset it and then went back and set it up like it was prior to the issue. Thanks for the reply Chris.

Displays band, and able to change band as well as fm/am. When I scan it flies through as if it can't pick up a signal on either am or fm.

Hi - if you tune manually on AM to random frequencies do you hear any noise in the background and perhaps noise that changes with the engine revs? If so it is probably the aerial/or connection. As you have lost AM/FM this might be the most likely. I believe that the aerial/antenna is fitted to the rear window (not tail gate) and not the fin on the top - anyone else confirm this??

I hear nothing tuning it manually or letting it scan, it's silent and nothing changes with the RPM. I played around with it some after leaving the gym yesterday and have come to the conclusion I need to take it to the dealer. I'll post the end results.

Thanks for all suggestions.

To me it sound like the amp in the boot has a problem.I am sure the radio ariel runs to the amp which is located in the boot passenger side. The ariel is a fin ariel on the roof.

It was nice outside this lunchtime so had a look at the above in the roof lining above and fed from the window aerial (looks like a standard heated rear view element) there is a AM/FM amplifier. I pulled the power and the signal drops and is noisy, but there is still static so I'm guessing it is the radio end - possibly the aerial connector but unlikely... also this confirmed that the fin antenna is not being used - well not in my standard V50 SE - satnav perhaps?

Where is the amp located? Can take a look for something unhooked or do a voltage check to troubleshoot?
