Can anyone tell me where this is fitted on my 1998 940 Celebration?
Ive just replaced the fuel pump relay, and the cranky position sensor. All I need now is to replace the Radio suppression relay which also is the injection relay(I believe) Hope you can help...... |

If your car has a turbo and the battery is on the passenger side of the car the relay is just above it on the inner wing.
Non turbos have them on the drivers side inner wing. This is correct for 1994/95 cars and I'm pretty sure later ones are the same. |

My 1992 940 non turbo has it fitted on driver's side inner wing (left as you look into the engine bay) just forward of the ABS module and yes, I believe it also has something to do with the injector wiring circuit , earth I think.
I replaced that relay and RPM sensor a few months ago. |

weirdest little relay in a volvo, located randomly on the wing (or I seem to remember clipped to the battery box) it sends power to the injectors direct from the battery by means of the relay fired from the ecu, apparently in very early injection models the power spike in the general wiring as the injectors fired was picked up by the radio as a series of clicks hence the relay to effectively give the injectors a direct supply.

I'd wondered for a while how it had acquired that name. Now I know. |

It's a while since I had my 940 and I'd forgotten why I learnt about this relay, now I remember I'd had trouble with the ECU but after I'd replaced that the relay just packed up with no warning or obvious cause. One of the problems with it, is that being fitted as it is, it suffers vibration and the solder joints inside become 'dry', basically the solder breaks and gives a poor contact, it's almost impossible to see but a quick dab with a soldering iron to remelt the solder can sometimes revitalise the relay.

On a fully injected 740 with the B200F engine it is fitted to the water header tank support clamp. Seems that they fitted it wherever they felt like, or as far as the loom stretched! Bob.
