When I bought it it was leaking oil, turns out it was the turbo return pipe and main engine seals which leak an contanimated the clutch too! cost over £1000 to repair at volvo so double check underneath to avoid upset.

Looks ok though but your camera dosnt help the pics out.

Good luck
Thanks for that. It's not my camera it's the sellers. He's a good 300 miles away so I asked for some photos first. I've read about looking for oil underneath but some posts say it's either PERFECTLY FINE or an IMPENDING DISASTER depending on where the oil is coming from.

So confusing.........Problem is I won't be able to tell if it's coming from the $£%&ing engine seals or the u-bend so I gotta take my chances.

The guy is a Volvo mechanic apparantly and says one of the members on here takes his car to him so that's got to be worth something.

Really? What makes you say this? Is it just because it's dirty or is it something else. You've got me worried now.

To be honest I think its a bit tatty, if you do go for it make sure you buy at the right price. Ask for more pics what type of history does she have?

Well i've told the guy it looks a bit tatty and unloved and even though i'm after a mint example of an 850R, i'll still be interested if he lowers the price sufficiently from £3000 so that I can replace the front disks / calipers and refurb the alloys etc.

dont worry about the badges etc as they can be bought.

does look a bit grubby, but no real damage anywhere.

yes £3000 could be considered high, but its a black R estate manual - and not something you cant shop around for, so basically he can charge what he wants.

heres my 850r that i paid £650 for:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=26943

which should be joining the manual club soon!!

anyone got a grey manual gearnob for sale???

- sorry she's staying with me!!!

However im sure i will bring her along to some meets when its finished.

I say try and get him down to £2500- £2750, then you would be looking at about £1000 to get it mint if you dont mind doing some work yourself.

Crikey, that is a good price. Was is just because she was thought to have a blown head gasket (and she is very tatty outside), or am I just a sucker? Actually, maybe don't answer that ;-)

Cheers, Pete

yeah, owner had been told it had a blown head gasket and cracked rad. however it only had a cracked rad which gave HG symtoms.

Yes she's a little tatty and could do with a good valet and a few other bits. But as a project car shes perfect.

£3000 is a fair price for a good R estate in my view, so no you didnt get ripped off. But the bargains are there, stuart from sw's has just bought a yellow t5-r estate for not much more than what i got my estate for and there's nothing wrong with his!!
