Default S90 Polestar Upgrade

Hi everyone,

Just recently had the Polestar software upgrade done on my D5 S90.

Did a lot of searching but couldn’t find much said about it so thought I would make a post to give my views and if anyone had any questions.

First impressions was why wasn’t this on the car as standard…. It’s makes the car feel so much more enjoyable, gear changes in all driving modes are noticeably smoother.

I had setup my own driving mode originally to get what I felt was the best balance of what I wanted out of the car, but since the software upgrade comfort driving mode is perfect!

When you put the driving mode to Polestar (which replaces dynamic) it becomes alive, but not in the same way dynamic did, it doesn’t keep the revs high so you are in the “sweet spot” for power and the pick up when you bury your foot does put a smile on your face. I always like cars that are what I call “sleepers” and this is definitely that!

I would say, if you are thinking about it, go for it! Just a shame it didn’t come out of the factory like this…

If anyone has any questions, just let me know and I will try and answer them.

Cheers,

Stuart

This matches my experience with my T5 (S60). A very worthwhile expenditure. There are one or two other threads in here about the option that might be worth checking out.

Thanks for posting your experience.

Thanks OP.

Did the dealer put the badge on the back?

I've been told by my dealer the badge and certificate gets sent in the post?

S90 D4 owner here and taking the plunge Monday afternoon.....

Know D4 won't see as great an incresse as D5, but hoping for a better ride/gearbox etc....

My dealer fitted the badge for me, and gave me the box with certificate and plaque.

Guess so. Had mine done a few weeks back and the badge was fitted and I was given the strange metallic plaque (about 150mm by 100mm). Quite what that is for is beyond me but my coffee sits on top of it on my desk. 😊

Q: Why is this optimisation software not standard in the car from production; why upgrade?

A: The optimisation upgrade has been designed to provide those Volvo owners
who wish to enjoy a sportier drive to upgrade if they so desire. The standard Volvo products remain true to their relevant dynamics and comfort levels which are developed to appeal to a broad audience, not all of whom will enjoy the heightened performance and dynamic abilities

My XC60, right now as it is, it's almost a D5. Side by side, i doubt a XC60 D5 has better acceleration power than mine. And even if it has, it's such a marginal difference that is almost irrelevant.

A XC60 D5 is always AWD. More ±100 kg on weight. Mine is a FWD. Less weight. So between one thing and another, my D4 has the advantage of a more reliable engine without powerpulse technology issues and has the performance of a D5.

Read my profile and the section labelled as "Modifications" to understand why/how.
