If you mean the engine version it'll almost certainly be a B21A with a carburettor, B21E models are fuel injected. A single, large, bolt on the crankshft pulley means it's a B230 or B200 so been swpped from the original, which has 6 small bolts securing the pulley to the crankshaft.

If you mean the engine serial number, it should appear on a sticker on the upper timing belt cover and be stamped on the top of the block just below number 1 cylinder's intake runner. It should also appear in the V5.

I don't think the engine code was on the cambelt cover way back then so it will be in your vin number.I'm hoping someone will put a link to the "how to decipher a vin number" which is somewhere here.It should tell you were it was built,which gearbox you have which engine and which year it was produced.If you post up your vin number some kind person will hopefully do it for you.Just leave the last six digits off as these numbers are unique and private to your car.
