I beg to di9ffer Clan ... I have just changed the COMPLETE UNIT of my C70 with no such problem at all ..in fact I have checked with a Volvo Main agent & they concur that a WHOLE UNIT CHANGE is quite possible ..

as long as the unit you are replacing has "TRACS" / ABS stamped on it & the unit you are REMOVING stamped ABS TRACS

there is no reason why you cannot change UNIT FOR UNIT ...

This is from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE (I did mine not 4 weeks ago ..)

My ORIGINAL UNIT was stamped 9694537 my REPLACEMENT is stamped 9692021 My car has been checked on a VCT2000 by Doves (Volvo) & has NO CPDES / Errors & is functioning perfectly ....

Anyway, at least I can get the MOT done now. Thanks again for all the info and thanks to volvoforums.org.uk for yet again coming up trumps with the solution to the latest Volvo problem. ;-)

Clan,

is there a different type of ABS Control "system" then ???? I was honestly not aware of that I had assumed that as the C70 ran from 1995 to 2004 (Based on the "V / S" Platform) that it would be identical.

Well tickle my bum with a ostrich feather you learn summot new every day ...

Cheers Clan

The C70 is based on the 850 platform , the new cars from 2000 ( S60 / V70/S80 ) have a different platform and hence technology . The C70 was hand built by Tom Walkinshaw and this is useful for 850 owners as a lot of the parts will be available for a long time yet .

The S/V70 up to 1999 are just a face lifted 850 but in 1999 they got the updated engines which carried on in the new models ( S60/V70/S80 ) Volvos evolve over many years .. The C70 was the only of the 850 based cars to carry on until 2005 as it was a special model .

Talking Another 850, another dry ECU...

Just a note of thank to the major forum contributors with particular reference to this ABS problem. My car had developed ABS+TRACS lights from intermittent to regular in the last 12 months (159k now). Luckily for me I checked on here before taking to a 'specialist' (my MOT garage didn't have a clue). Anyway long and short of it is the problem is solved after I re-soldered the joints as instructed and following the photo guidance. Best bit is it only cost a few quid on a nice set of torx sockets

Default ABS Tracs problems

Hi Guys, first time doing this so hope it goes ok.
I have a 1998 v70r, some time ago the old TRAC's ABS lights started to come on then off. I trawled through this wonderful owners club forum, found the correct blog, then proceeded to fix the TRAC's ABS unit (re-soldering the pins). Since doing this I have not had a problem.
I would just like to thank everyone who has had an input in dealing with this problem (sorry can't remember which person posted the pic's etc of how to fix the problem, but thanks anyway).
Once again many thanks and keep up the good work.
