Default 164 chrome strips.

Iam going to start some restoration work on my 164, whats the best way of removing the chrome side strips as they seem very easy to bend or break. Thanks jeff.

Yeah, they are easy to bend and hard to find in good condition.

If you work carefully with 2 screwdrivers, one directly above the plastic clip and one directly below, they should pop off. If it's really tight, try softening (or even completely melting) the plastic clip with a heat gun.

I use a sharp thin knife. Put it under the trim and knock it sideways with a mallet. It simply cuts the clip in half. The bit of clip left in the trim can be slid out sideways. It isn't worth trying to salvage the clips; just replace them. Obviously you have to with my method, but the stripes aren't bent at all.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of that,

John
