Default What should I do with the bumpers.....

I've booked the 440 into the bodyshop to have her completely tidied up - rusty arches and nearly complete respray but......what do I do with the bumpers.

I had a slight bump in March and have got a replacement to be re-sprayed and put on. Someone had tried to paint the black strip but I was hoping to keep the inlay trim original.

I also have to replace the rear bumper as its all out of shape too but without spending mega bucks I've only got hold of one that was colour coded completely.

Would the car look stupid if I had the bumpers completely colour coded (without the black insert) and left the side mouldings black and original or all resprayed etc etc.

I want her to look at her best and the repairs are costing me over £1300!

any thoughts?

I think it would look ok if you had all of them done. The bodyshop is going to have to buy loads of paint in to do the bumpers and bodywork, might as well make use of it! I had my doorstrips removed (i know your's are still on but it would look just the same), and i thonk it tidied up the car on a big way.

The car doesn't look too silver because the window surrounds and pillars are still black. If it were me, i'd do it again. I toyed with it for ages, finally having it done January last year. Wish i had done it sooner.

Colin W had his blue 440 done which looks alot better for it too.

It might look a little odd with completely colour coded bumpers but black strips on the bodywork. Get the bumpers done and have a look before it comes out of the body shop.

What colour is your car?

Hi Daniel
I will be honest and say that I looked at your pics and that's where the inspiration came from!
I've pinched a pic from the gallery to show you the colour, it's called "metallic Lavender" (interesting choice volvo!)
I think your 440 pics look ace - i think that without the side strips it carries the lines from the top of the front bumper to the back of the car.
i probably won't take the side strips from myrtle as Joe bought her 7 years ago and is very attached to her and wants me to keep her as original as possible, but I am allowing myself a few tweaks while getting this work done

The side trims do also provide protection from inconsiderate people parking and opening their doors. Colin W (the blue 440) has left his on but colourcoded them. I think they look good. Volvo should have done that in the first place. You'd be surprised at how much it will transform the look of your car. I'd just bite the bullet...;-) You wont regret it!

hmnnn

thanks for the pic sandy, now i can sort of get the picture in my minds eye

I think the only way for me to choose is either toss a coin, or pop in to the bodyshop in the week and see how she with the bumpers painted.

I must admit that I am more inclined to have the side strips painted over as they do look quite good

decisions decisions decisions

lol!

Well it's all looking a bit different at the moment.

Myrtle has undergone something of a transformation. I have popped into the bodyshop a couple of times to check up on her and am amazed - loads more work than we thought she needed and twice the time originally thought but the panels are all straight and painted and she's being re-built ready for me to collect her on Monday.

I have some before and during pics on the camera and when I've worked out how to put them on my website (if all else fails I'll get them on the gallery) I'll let you know.

but my god does she look good.

The side strips have been colour coded in and from what I saw on Thursday night she looks so much newer for it.

Roll on Monday - and as a special treat I'm getting her valeted inside to have a shiney car inside and out!
