Digital indicators ??? Help
Hi, I have just purchased a V70 x reg and require hand controls to be fitted as me legs are knackered (my other vehicle's a wheelchair)..
I have phoned a couple of places and they quote about £440 ish for hand controls but if I want indicators on the hand controls (which I do) they say that the price will be £75 extra but if it has 'digital indicators' the price will be £399 just for the indicators.... Can someone tell me if my v70 has digital indicators ??? Thanks, Martin. |

Digital indicators
Why not fit the toggle switch yourself ? I did all you need is an Allen key to remove the handle small drill bit to insert the double pole switch, available from either Maplin or any good RC model shop for under £5 and a length of wire to connect to your existing indicator loom will take you a few mins.
As there is no technical regs governing hand controls you're not upsetting the insurance Company. At a guess I bet chances are you've got Jeff Gosling Handcontrols very over priced for what they are. I'm having a set rebuilt in Stainless for less than £200 Charlotte

Hi, thanks for the replies.
My original plan was to fit the toggle switch myself with those blue clips that squeeze on in line. The guy kinda threw me by saying that because Volos have what 'we' call digital indicators, we have to send the stalk away to have a special connector soldered on..... I'll give them a miss as they are probably chancing their luck ! Yeah straight on to the indicator loom me thinks would be fine. Martin. |

Hi,
I think what they mean by 'digital' indicators is the indicator switch has no wiring directly connected to the switch contacts. It would have a CAN BUSS connector which would send a digital message to another part of the car to turn on and off the indicators (with Volvo I think that this is the DIM). To make a connection with this kind of switch would mean dismantling the switch and soldering directly to the switch contacts. Not having had to take the stalk to bits (YET!) I cannot say if there is just switch wires or CAN BUSS wires from the unit? Maybe someone has a spare they can send a pic of it? Hope this helps a bit, Bob

I would rather use inline splice or screw down terminal blocks for the connections though, the blue Scotch-Loks tend to cut a few strands of the wire you are connecting to thus degrading its current capacity, I don't like them for this reason, even a soldered joint is preferable although it's a PITA to do inside the car - Mike |
