You should also be aware that the rear view mirror is actually the UEM (Upper Electronics Module) too, so don't mess with it.

thanks for the message That is some good information about the UEM, i did know the mirror housed the UEM, but it good to let everyone know the poential issues.

The dash cam rear view mirror camera i have ordered just clips over the existing rear view mirror. so nothing gets removed or disconnected.

it requires a 12V power supply and the rear view camer has to be mounted on the tailgate and the wire routed through the rest of the car back up to the top of the mirror.
oh and a little cable that plugs into into the front camera that mounts on the windscreen with some kind of bonding pad.

i am hoping there is a convienant point in the courtesy/map light region where i can take a 12V feed from to power the new mirror.
i will have to work out how to remove the plastics in that area.
if it is like most cars the light lenses pop out and ther bulb come out then thereare some screwsunder them that releases the plastics down so i can get to the wiring behind them.
the only down side of getting power from that area is i believe the entire area is only powered when the ignition is on, but i will have to check this.

i will have to check the wiring diagrams i have to see what is going on electrically in that area.

The cable loom to the lamps and the UEM includes permanent power

The entire assembly unclips and comes down, VIDA shows how, quite simple, I mounted my garage door opener in there 5 years ago and haven't taken it apart since....

Oh thanks for the heads up.

that is good to know, it will make the install much easier.
the modern rear view cameras have some nice feature. Like switching on the review camera as an when you like from one of the touch screen buttons so if you have loads of stuff on the boot you can still see out of the back with the rear view camera, and it will not put the reverse lights on.

split screens for viewing the recored footage front and back.
G sensor for someone bumping you when the car is parked up.

hopefully it will arrive this weekend and i will be able install it and report back.
