V70 T6 AWD Advice..
Hello All,
This is my first post on the V70 '07> section... We currently run a XC90 D5 Sport '58 and are currently looking to change this to a V70 T6 AWD due to a change in the mileage we do ie. we don't need a diesel anymore and no need for the seven seat option. So my question is are there any common faults/gremlins with these? The XC90 has been spot on so far and hoping the V70 T6 AWD will offer the same sense of quality, build and reliability. Thanks |

T6's are quite rare so there isn't a lot of engine specific information around. There has been talk of Gearbox issues caused by the high torque figures but at the moment it's not clear if this refers to the 6 speed Aisin Warner unit on MKIII V70's or the old 4 speed GM unit fitted to older models!

I have a 2008 v70 D5 185hp, we have had it for a year now. It came to us with 44000 miles on it and it now has 60000.
Obviously I can't compare my D5 engine to the T6 but car wise i have suffered the power steering issue, new rack and pump followed by replacement of all the pipes and a second pump. For this mot I have just had to replace a track rod end that was new a year ago. Rear drop links needed done and now my air con compressor has seized. If you asked me a year ago if the phase 3 cars were better I would have said yes, but ask me now I would say no. If your XC 90 is a good one I would keep it before getting a phase 3 V70 |

The track rod and drop failure is a little concerning too given its age and mileage, are these common faults and failures? Anyone have any feedback on the reliability of the T6 unit? Thanks for all the responses so far!! |

My 2009 D5 is on 116,000 miles now. I've not had any issues with the A/C but I have had a track rod end replaced recently and believe bushes on the rear suspension are due. For the size/weight of the car and the mileage I consider it par for the course.

I have a MY'12 D5 G/Tronic. (215).
It's just hit 50k, and only had one issue with it - a software update for the gearbox. Buy well, looked after with full history and you should be ok. Can always take extended warranty. Having Jags, Audis, BMW and Mercs on our fleet, I can honestly say they are all similar in reliability. If anything, Volvo dealers are a little more friendly. Sometimes you can buy a pig of a car, but that's just bad luck, and counts for any make or model out there. |

T6 is a main cop car engine by the way. They apparently have proven reliable, apart from the head gaskets blowing - but only the cop cars, not the normal road version. Which is understandable with mileage and speed etc.

Thanks for the responses again, much appreciated.
Agreed, there are "some" cars that are just built to go wrong, I think I had a Friday afternoon car once - it was a Renault. But back in the nineties I think the only production day in France was a Friday afternoon!! Also agreed the Volvo dealers tend to be a little more down to earth and friendly.. the one I use for the XC at the moment is very good. After long searches last night, I gave up in the end.. but can anyone shed any light on the timing belt intervals for the 2010 T6? If I do go down the T6 AWD route I will purchase a selekt car with the warranty. Thanks again for the advice so far... any further feedback would be great! |
