Default How to check stereo code (stereo working at moment)

Hi all,

The stereo in my C70 is fully working at the moment, but I'm going to disconnect it in a bit to fit the wiring harness for the aerial down switch. I have a code which I think is probably the stereo code, but is there anyway to get the stereo to show me the code while it is still working so I can double check?

I don't want to plug it back in and find the code I have doesn't work!

Hi Mike,

I had to disconnect my SC-805 head unit last week and was concerned that I didn't have the code.

Very limited investigation suggested that , no , the head units do not have a function where they will display their current code, even when they are in the 'unlocked' state.

I gave my local Volvo dealer a call and they gave me the code over the phone, based simply on the head unit type and the reg of the vehicle. The code they gave was correct and I re-installed the head unit with no problems.

I use MRG Volvo in Chippenham, Wilts - 01249 443300 - and have found their service to be faultless in this and all other matters.

I would suggest you give them a call and see if they can do the same for you as they did for me.

Rgds,

Boots

Hello,
Boots advice is spot on. Rufe on here will also be able to kindly do this.
The only issue will be if someone has changed the headunit at some point.
But as you have a code a call will confirm it, surely the code you have isn't from a previous headunit but you never know. So if you can wait until tomorrow this could work.
The code may even be written on the unit.
As for what you are asking, it will be highly unlikely the code can be found in a menu on the headunit, if this is indeed possible it would require clever software to access it.
Cheers

Hi Mike,
How did you fit the wiring ? was it a full loom or did you just cut a cpl of wires and route them through a switch.
Only asking cos I'm thinking of doing the same job myself.
cheers
Joe.

I bought the additional loom from my local dealer. Had to be ordered in from Sweden so took 3 days to get here but was only about £16 and really easy to fit, just pulled out the block from the stereo and plugged it into the new loom, then plugged the loom back into the stereo. Then just fed the switch wiring which branches off the loom through to the new switch and plugged in, job done!

You can just cut into the power wire for the aerial and fit a normal switch, but it really finishes it off if you're lucky enough to get the proper volvo switch and it fills the space where the switch blank was. The trouble is they are unbelievably rare, especially in gray. Volvo don't make them anymore but if you manage to get one second hand volvo can still get you the loom.

Cheers for that.
I already have a switch (In Grey), but don't have the loom. Do you know which wire is the feed for the aerial ?
cheers.

That's a lucky find! I'm not sure which wire it is, there is a post on here somewhere which would tell you, but if you just cut into the aerial power wire the switch will not light up unless you rig something up for that as well. I guess it just depends how involved you want to get, I did think about just cutting intot the existing wiring, but for the sake of £16 I've got the proper extra loom and the install was so easy, I spent 5 minutes at the most on it.

Mike,
Would you have the part number for the loom, or any picks of it, (might be able to replicate it, with all the plugs and "ICE" bits I have here).
cheers,
Joe.

Part number for the cable harness 9208254

I have a picture of the loom i can upload later if i can find it! Or unless Mike beats me to it!
Cheers
