Long motorway drive and 40+ MPG :-)
A good day with the C70 Conv.
Took a trip to see my niece, Pretty much all motorway M25 & M3 and 173 miles in total with an ave of a fraction over 40MPG. Speed varied with traffic from about 58 mph to 67 gps on cruise. Did hit 90 mph once overtaking. Overall very pleased with the mpg considering I was 4 adults up and very windy on open stretches. Car ran faultless.

Very impressive. I've never taken mine on a long run like that but I think I'd struggle to get 40 mpg.

Hello,
Nice one That is great. A long journey last week and I hit 36.5, around 170 mixed miles. Two adults. Full service in November, all genuine parts. Full back brake rebuild, I'm still on old rubber and my engine is NA, so with new shoes I think I can expect more. Cheers |

But it's an LPG conversion! isn't it? It's been a while since we've stretched the legs of our C70 T5 but a few years ago we used it quite a bit in continental Europe and found that if we kept the speed below about 80 the mpg was over 30 but once it was pushed over that (130-140 kph) it invariably dropped to around 27-28 mpg. I can't imagine getting 40 though!

On a long motorway trip I try to use the cruise as much as possible. On this trip I settled on a speedo indicated 70 mph (actually 65mph GPS) and just knocked the cruise up and down a few clicks as traffic slowed etc. Only really need to use the throttle to change lanes and overtake lorries going up hill. The car seemed to settle at 63mph which is well off boost. Maybe the 2.4's low pressure turbo helps with the boost lower in the rev range ?

Aaaahhh... the benefits of not having the cruise control/computer set up in my basic model car. I don't have worry about mpg, really. I just put petrol in as and when needed and mutter under my breath about the price.
Mind you, I once knew a bloke who didn't even worry about the price! He just used to say, "I put forty quids worth in every time the tank gets down to quarter full." Come to think of it. I suppose I'm a bit like that as well!
