Default '78 244 Rear Bodywork

Just wondering if anyone knows if the rear quarters are available for my car. Well, ideally repair sections as the rest isn't too bad. I have already bought a new rear panel but need something to attach it too!

Try Brookhouse- they can get early wings and parts for the estate, probably the saloon too.

Yes I've bought parts from them already for this 244. Tried calling them several times today but I guess they're pretty busy so thought I'd ask here.

Depending how far the rust goes, it should be easy enough to make repair sections. That's how I did my 164

Cheers john, that picture is a great help. Incidentally, your rear lights look rather new. Are they a lucky find or still available, presuming they are 244 compatible.

Late 100 and early 240 used the same rear lights, but Volvo used two manufacturers concurrently, Cibie and Hella. Their lights differ slightly and you need to match parts - a Hella lens won't fit on a Cibie casing and vice versa.

Looking at the photo, I'm 98% sure you have Cibie lights, but if you look closely at your lenses you'll see a manufacturer stamp to verify which type you have.

Mine were a lucky find at a BKV stall, but KG sell new Cibie lenses, see page 128
http://www.kgtrimning.com/KGTRIMNING162005web.pdf

They're in Sweden, but they speak good English so give them a call.

If you have Hella lamps, I don't know of a supplier. Volvo could have fitted either make on the production line, so I would suggest swapping to Cibies - refurbish a pair of Cibie light backs and fit new lenses from KG.

Thanks again John,

I have just had confirmation from the garage that the lights are Cibie items.
The picture in that catalogue shows the lens plus the chrome surround. Is that regarded as one item? Mine has had a light knock on the corner of the N/S lamp and the chrome is broken. Saying that, neither side is cosmetically great so a new pair will be ordered.

That's a shame. They do come up sometimes on US ebay, so keep a lookout.

The lens and surround are the same moulding - it's not possible to separate them.
