Over 100mpg...
Our new (to us) V40 managed 130 miles today without a single block of the tft fuel gauge clicking down. By my calculations, that's over 100mpg, which would have been exceptional had it not been on the back of a tow truck
Been running like a dream, then today up flashed a message saying battery charge failure, the red battery symbol above the gear shift indicator lit up like a Christmas tree and the advisory service urgent appeared too. One Volvo Assist call later and it's on the way back to the dealer for some TLC. Just to top it off, as they loaded it onto the truck I spotted a nail sticking out the passenger rear wheel... Hope it's a quick fix - couldn't have happened on a worse weekend (family reasons) when we all need to be mobile. Somewhat dented Mrs McP's love for her new buggy. Here's hoping it's the only glitch for a while! |

There seems to be a lot of this across the newer cars recently.
I hope flaky batteries and alternators aren't going to be a new Volvo feature. They've traditionally been incredibly reliable parts.

Turned out to be nothing more sinister than a dodgy battery terminal connection. Frustrating but at least it's back on the road and no signs of any problems since. Tyre couldn't be repaired so replacement fitted. Hope that's the gremlins sorted for a good while now, car going like a dream otherwise.

Wonder why that wasn't diagnosed and fixed at the roadside.

The roadside assistance was the nearest garage to where the problem showed up which was the middle of nowhere. He suspected the terminal was the problem but it was heading towards dark and he said if it turned out to be something else then Mrs McP and the kids could have lost headlights etc as the battery died on what is a very remote and unwelcoming rural road at night. So he marked it as needing dealer attention and towed it. Fair play to him, I wouldn't want to have run that risk either.
Found out afterwards he's a friend of the in-laws and a very conscientious fellow, so understandable he wouldn't want a more dangerous breakdown on his mind when he could have played it safe. |
