Default Tyre experiences... Which do you use/prefer?

Evening all,

Just a quick straw poll I wanted to do on which tyres/brands people favour for the S60 and any recommendations folk may have... All weather or change for the winter?

In the past (not on an S60 as this is my first), I've used Dunlops, Vredesteins, Michelins as well as some cheapies that came with cars I've bought such as Lassa Impetus and Event which are currently on the front. They're fine when you put your foot down in the dry and get a shift on but do they spin in the wet unless you're very gentle witrh the LOUD pedal.

Anyone tried Hankook Ventus V12's?

Rainsport 3s. Job jobbed. Good grip dry and wet, good price, unreservedly recommended.

Have Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric on mine, they got good reviews and were reasonably priced and they've been fine so far. Grip is good and they're quite quiet

I've used Barum Bravuris which we fairly good.

Last set was Hankook Ventus Prime...not good. Lacked wet grip and had one moment when the car went into a full 4 wheel drift. Turn in was vague and they snapped into understeer - there was no transition: just OK and then sudden understeer. Really, really nasty if you were pressing on a bit and inspired no confidence at all.

Currently have Goodyear Efficient Grip which seem good - good bite into the turn, good grip. Only had them on for a few weeks so no idea about wear. The price difference between mid-range like Barum or Hancook and premium like Michelin really isn't that much anymore.

I wish car tyres were like bike tyres insomuch as there's a couple of clear leaders...chuck a set of Michelin Pilot Road 4 on and know you've got a fantastic tyre that grips like the proverbial brown sticky stuff to a blanket, is great in the wet and will give good mileage.

In accordance with the question in the title, I use anything but prefer Primacys.

In general terms you get what you pay for once you have finished checking for the real deal etc.

Best braking distance figures for summer or winter tyres:
Continental or Dunlop.

Best braking distance figures for all season tyres:
Goodyear.

Lowest wear rates:
Michellin.

Close second in winter tyres:
Nokian and Michellin.

Every tyre size is different in terms of which top of the range tyre provides the best figures, but the ADAC and some other German mags do some good tests that are worth reading.
Don't bother with any budget or go green fuel savers, as the top of the range tyres always perform better and in reality there is little difference between the big 4 (Conti, Dunlop, Goodyear and Michellin). Barum, Hankook and Vedestrian are all mid range average types.

The important decision is over the use of summer or winter tyres and the actual tyre size selected (Always check the owners hanbook).

Dunlop BluResponse on the front.......highly recommend, they are quiet, grippy and seem to be wearing well. Vredestein Snowtrac in the winter also pretty good - very sure-footed.

In my experience I rate Continental, Uniroyal, Semperit and Pirelli a poor fourth. Contis are streets ahead.
