Default iPod hook up to SC-901

There has been some discussion in the past about connecting mp3 players, and specifically iPods, to the SC-901 but I haven't been able to find a UK source for a simple device that will connect the dock connector of an iPod to the SC-901 and provide audio feed as well as charging the iPod though one single unit. I'm not too concerned about having control of the iPod via the SC-901's controls - I'd be content simply to have the audio and charging capability in one neat unit.

THere is a device in the US made by Blitzsafe that seems to do the trick but they don't apear to have a UK distributor, plus on their web site they say they are going out fo business soon!

Anyone got a source for such an item in the UK? All of the usual car audio sites show nothing for Volvo.

Try these guys:

Progressive ICE 0871 871 9747

They are just bringing out a link that goes straight into the back of the aerial socket, for 69.99 but also do other more integrated solutions.

Cheers

Thanks Philip. Do these guys have a web address or a regular geographic phone number? I have a pathological aversion to 0871 numbers!!!

Try a google search on "Dension", I think that is how I found their number. Can't remember the actual site, but it did have a UK address on it. Something like "Cooltopia.com" rings a bell.

Hope this helps

Cooltopia.com it is, Philip. Many thanks. I've dropped them an email to see if they can provide what I'm looking for as Dension don't offer a kit for the Volvos. Plus I think I'd be just as happy with an AUX in adapter and use the iPod itself for song or album selection as be bothered with the limited functionality of the Dension set up. I got one of those for my daughter's Citroen and it really isn't all that convenient to use.

Rgds

What they have suggested for me, for my new V50, is a kit that charges the iPod and connects to the aerial socket of the stereo. The quality is still supposed to be quite good.

Apparently the V50 has a new type of audio wiring which cannot accept the usual adapter through the CD changer port.

In my V70 I have an aftermarket Sony headunit with a Dension active cradle attached. I paid £90 for this.

Let me know how you get on.

It's amazing how difficult it is to do this on the Volvo with its very fancy Dolby system. My 'office' Ford Mondeo has an AUX in socket in the glove box so all I need is a simple 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack cable and off I go. Would that it were that simple, and inexpensive, for the Volvos! But since the SC 901 doesn't have the capability of showing track names, etc., but simply shows numbers, I'm inclined to think that a line out to AUX in is a better bet since that way the iPod controls are accessible. I gather that with the full Dension kit, it disables the iPod controls.

P.S. I've also written to Volvo UK asking them how to provide an AUX in connection for the SC 901 - it will be interesting to see what they have to say...!!!!
