Battery Discharging
I have just purchased a Volvo V70 diesel (1600) 2009
After three days use, the battery keeps discharging overnight. I have checked that there are no appliances/cables causing it to discharge. Can anyone recommend anything else I can do before contacting the dealer once again? Cheers, Paul |

Try checking for discharge with a meter. Switch off and allow to stand for ten minutes. Disconnect battery and put a meter in circuit. It will tell you if you have a fault. Could be anything inc alternator ,alarm or possibly a light not switching off . Check glove box boot lights etc. Possibly just a knackered battery . The battery should have a date stamp on it . If it's the original then it would be overdue for replacement by now.

As MF suggests, many causes. The last time I had this problem was on a Land Rover when the resistor pack in the alternator failed. The battery itself is another strong candidate, the likes of Halfords or any decent garage should be able to check it.

The date stamp is on one of the battery terminals (negative as I recall). It is in the format of week number / YY. Just replaced my original one at 10 years old. It's under a plastic panel in the engine bay just underneath the passenger side of the windscreen.
If it were me, I'd take it back to the seller & ask for them to investigate as it could be problem with battery, alternator or something drawing power unnecessarily. Any warning message on the display or battery symbols displaying? Are the headlights definitely off when you lock the car (there is no lights-on alarm)? |

MF/Mike/Simon - thanks for your replies.
Done most of the checks you mentioned, but not with meter. Also going to check battery date to see if is the original? Cheers lads |
