New Member Help Steering Problem
Hi all you S/V40 owners.
I have just bought a 2001Y S40 1.8 SE,and am enjoying it so far. But after driving for journeys of 30 mins or more the steering develops a squeeking noise, sounds like a dry rubber bush maybe, anyone had a similar problem. Doug |

RE: New Member Help Steering Problem
Get a bit of wd40 around the steering column and the joints on the lower end.
It won't hurt anything inside the car or the electrics. |

There is a mod out for that it involves greasing the top of the steering rack inside the car, but theres no point trailing to a dealer to have it done cos it never works. Try as suggested above thats my advise to.

Thank you both for your advice, I have spoken to friend who is a motor mechanic, he says it might be the steering wheel nylon bushes as the noise is more a rubbing or binding than a squeaking noise.
Luckly I bought it from a volvo dealer with a year waranty, so have booked it in tomorrow for a check over, shall let you know what the garage says. |

RE: New Member Help Steering Problem
You were right craig, the volvo garage tried greasing the two seals on steering linkage but no better, I had to take it back the following Friday to have a new Steering rack fitted, they said the noise was comming from one of the unverseal joints joining the steering rack to the steering colum, and the noise was vibrating up to the steering colum. The new steering rack and joints seems to have cured the problem so far.
