I only do 6000 miles a year, so being slightly late with the first service shouldn’t cause any issues.

I suppose each manufacturer determines how they wish to loss lead, whether it’s Service deals, or financial contributions to to PCP deals or 0% finance deals.

I think the question has been answered, but just to clarify -

PCP = First 3 services free, option to buy next 2 for £200 more at point of sale

Personal HP/Cash Purchase - £399 for 3, £599 for 5 at point of sale

Business Lease Purchase if bought on standard terms = First 3 services free, option to buy next 2 for £200 more at point of sale

Business Outright Purchase/HP if on Standard Terms = £399 for 3, £599 for 5 at point of sale

Business Lease Purchase if bought on "Corporate Support Terms" i.e. Free Metallic, extra discount = Service Plans not available and usually lower residual which gives lower total purchase price/interest charges

Business Outright Purchase/HP if bought on "Corporate Support Terms" i.e. Free Metallic, extra discount = Service Plans not available

The Contract Hire Deals are done Via Santander who buy want to buy the vehicles at the largest discount possible. This is to enable them to give the cheapest rentals they can, so they take them on the "Free Metallic and Extra Discount" terms described above, meaning no option of the service plans.

On PCH you are effectively benefiting from the "Purchasing Power" of Santander Consumer Finance which usually gives cheaper monthly rentals than an equivalent PCP deal (not always, but 90% of the time). Its always worth running the comparison between PCP and PCH as on the PCP you get the 3 free services but have to pay for your road fund where as on PCH you have to pay for your servicing but not your Road Fund (especially worth looking into if the car lists over £40k)

Hopefully this gives some insight into the rationale behind it all

The girls servicing Deal are to be found hanging on street corners between the chippy and kebab shop, from about 10pm until they get busy, unless its raining, when the bus stop will do.

I did have the service deal on my previous 2 XC60’s, which were not on PCH deals and were great value.
So just to recap Suffolk Boy, My XC90 is on a 10000 pa 24 month lease. I shouldn’t get in trouble with Santander, if the first service is around 3 weeks or so late? Then in theory I should be handing the car back before the second one is due. Great idea. 😛

That is what I was advised to do, so I will be doing that. The second service is quite a bit more expensive as I understand it, so certainly seems worth avoiding having it carried out just before you hand it back.
