Baz, of course you're on the nutty side, it goes with the territory. I'd rather be a bit nutty than bore myself to sleep in a mondeo.
If it's handling well I think I'd leave it, because as you say, once you start fiddling with x, y needs adjusting too which puts out z.

Rob Henchoz has got the shims if you need them.

Tara,

d

Glad you're getting it all sorted. If no one offers you a shim I guess you could always make one. If you had all of the shims out when you rebuilt it and had none left over you may be able to juggle them about to give a good match from side to side. If you know the position this shim needs to go in I think I would enjoy the rest of the summer enjoying your car and fit the shim as and when.

Derek, you are quite right - I have hardly used the car since rolling about under it for 3 years..it about time it got used..

This summer I am using it regularly, and what a lovely smooth and elegant ride she is as well...

My dimiutive girlfriend has aslo taken to driving it as she enjoys the easy gear change, light handling (whilst moving), fully adjustable seats, Oh and the attention she gets from older men!!

I'm off to have a word...

Baz (who shall remain shim-less) Davis

I wish my fiancee was prepared to drive my Amazon Maybe once she's used to driving over here (she's used to driving lhd cars & has never driven a rhd car, or in the UK), then I can get her to drive it

My step mum used to drive it all the time when it was dad's, and aside from the lack of power steering, she had no complaints. In fact, she speaks far more highly of the Amazon than she does of the 850 that replaced it....

My wife has no choice. We only have amazons as our daily transport. She says that she doesn't mind as she gets plenty of attention. Especially driving the 1800s. Her only worry is that they will be reliable. I have put her mind at rest and convinced her that they should be more reliable than any modern car. I pointed out that there are only a hand full of things on the amazon that could fail, but a boot full of things on a more modern car.

incidentaly I always carry that handfull of spares. A spare fuel pump, water pump, complete distributor and leads, thermostat, spare wire, spare fuses and bulbs and hoses in each car. Although I haven't told the wife. So far I haven't needed any yet.
