Question 1999 V70 Headlight refelctors tarnished.

My V70 had its MoT yesterday - and passed (phew!) and the tester raised an 'advisory' on the headlights saying that the headlight beam pattern wasn't as good as it should be.

I had a closer look at them and had to agree. It looks like the reflectors are a bit tarnished.

Now being a penny-pinching grumpy old git, I don't want to... sorry, can't afford to... buy complete replacement headlight units for that. Recycled headlamps are a lot cheaper that new ones (of course), but even that would be more than more plastic could bear at the moment,

So, is it possible to change just the reflectors... and if so, anyone found a source of replacement reflectors (at a sensible price)?

(Or even 'reflectors'... lysdexic figners lured.. KO?)

Common fault on these Chris. One of mine was so bad I didn't dare take it for MoT like that, so gdphillips (fine fellow) got me a decent second-hand one. I still got an advisory on the other one though!

The trouble is that many second-hand units are just as bad - as I say, it's a common fault. It's certainly something I wouldn't buy from a scrappy without seeing it first, unless they are very trustworthy.

I doubt there's a source of getting just the reflectors cheaply - if so I'd like to know too!

Default Hi LB

Thought it might be something like that - it was just that the piccies of your headlights made it look as though you had managed to get just the reflectors.

Hmmm... perhaps a potential sideline here... find a way of resilvering reflectors and selling them to V70 owners.

Another thought on recycled ones... my first port of call would be my local Volvo guy at Shipham Motor Group. (No I am not advertising here.) They have done any work that I can't do on my blue streak... and he quite often has a stock of 2nd user spares for the likes of me. Will let him get back of his holidays and see if he has and good ones in his store.
