Do you own either the Sport or R Design XC90

I have a 2006 Sport with the 19inch wheels

This week in the snow it has been less than impressive, even in winter mode.

Somebody suggested it could be tyre pressure which I'm running at 38psi. It's on low profile tyres so I need to keep pressure up ideally

How is everyone else getting on with their's in the snow

Has anyone dropped the PSI and found a difference?

Thanks!

hi, i am running my xc90 on 19" alloys with pirelli p zero tyres.

it has got me through some rural lanes which i know i would have not got through without the awd.

the tyres do concern me as they seem to clog with snow/ice too much.

i have looked around and cannot find any hardcore al terrain tyres in 19". i can only imagine i wil need to get smaller wheels if i wanted chunkier tyres.

i got stuck yesterday on a hill with 2/3 inches of ice / snow laid down. when starting off the only way i could move forwards up hill was to turn the dstc off and floor it. all 4 wheels spun, and i moved on.

my father in law then got stuck in his beemer but he could only move with 2 people pushing him out.

so although the xc90 is a lot heavier i am confident is is more capable than other normal vehicles in this weather.

on downhill decents, i have had to downshift manually in the geartronic box as light braking locks up the wheels, and apart from 1 moment when i spun 45* it works well.

Nokian do an all weather all season tyre which gets great reviews, in 19". I have been looking as I'm getting an XC90 Exec which also comes with 19" 255/50 tyres. Also, deeper tread depthon the Nokian from new, and good snow clearing. See other posts on this forum about it or google it.

thanks for that ITServe.

thats the same size i have on my Exec model.

i will have a look online for them, as i only found the usual suspects coming up on most tyres sites and none of the tread pattens looked good enough for off road ventures.

I have the same 19" as Stut4 and though they work in the snow I would not be too keen to venture too far as they don't inspire confidence. TyreTest.com dont rate them in the snow at all! They are only a summer tyre.
