Having gotten fed up of replacing door mirrors[3 of them]on previous cars after they'd been smashed off by drivers trying to get through gaps that weren't big enough while the car was parked on our street I took to parking round the corner on a less busy road. It's less convenient but cheaper than replacing mirrors! However the n/s mirror on my 960 was hit by either a pedestrian or cyclist using the pavement and travelling from the rear of the car towards the front, this resulted in the mirror hanging from its wires and the adjuster motor being broken.A new motor was purchased and fitted so all good, this morning while walking the dog I saw the o/s door mirror had been hit by someone travelling from front to rear of the car the mirror glass is still held in the housing but the adjuster motor on that one is also now broken,a new one has been ordered for that. The thing is for the o/s mirror to have been hit in the way it was means whoever did it was travelling the wrong way up a one way street

When I lived in Birmingham years ago, our house had a Pub each at the end of the road!
Drunks would amuse themselves by kicking the wing mirrors! Had 2 done on my Volvo 740 in the 3 years we lived there. At least then easily got from a scrapper. Also our next door neighbours split up and the ex husband caused her trouble when one night he decided to slash around 15 car tyres including 2 of my vans tyres. She had met someone else, and he drove a van! Got the tyres replaced and a few days later came back and did all of my vans tyres plus around 5 other cars! Apparently he admitted it to his EX and went to the Pub and got a good seeing too, as he had done the Pub owners car too! I ended up paying for the tyres all round, mobile fitter, then rented a garage nearby. Our Volvo 340 wasn't touched. James. |

You either need a driveway and use it or better still, a garage. Alternatively find a dependable aggro merchant and pay him to stand guard over your car with his preferred weapon of choice - if some muppet decides to play football with your mirrors hopefully he'll stop them before they start or at least give them the same treatment after.

Do you fold them in? I always fold mine in in vulnerable places, such as Tescos carpark, it helps a bit.

Have[along with other residents on our side of the street-residents on the other side of the street all have driveways]tried for off road parking but the landlord[housing association] and/or the council won't allow it.Nearest lock-up garages are about a quarter of a mile away-I already rent one of those and keep my Omega there. No Laney never really thought about folding the mirrors in but think I'm going to have to start.Only positive is that the door mirrors are the only things to get hit and not the rest of the car, only worry is if I fold the mirrors in will the muppets shave even closer to the car?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264856306111 Devise an easy mounting method and have it sticking out into the road from your door mirror, red reflector facing the rear, white to the front. If the reflector gets hit but saves the mirror it would be money well spent.

On our 340 one had even urinated up the passenger door! Charming! Took it for a wash! Moved to France after. One good thing of owning a country property with drive. James |

I had my '71 VW camper parked on the road at the time (more than 10 years ago). One snowy day I woke up around 3am to see someone kicking mirrors off cars as they went home. They got to my van and tried, only to fall flat on their arse due to the mirror being higher than everything else |

Fitted new mirror adjuster motor so all good[for now!]then found out the windscreen washer motor has packed in! It's definitely not the fuse as other stuff on the same circuit all work, will check that power is reaching the pump before condemning the pump itself.
