All you need to do is remove the headlight, as the two units clip together, hope that helps.

It is held to the headlamp by a metal spring clip over a plastic clip. Removing the headlamp is the only way to get this off without breaking the clip - I've seen many held back on by self tapping screws as a result. There are three M6 (10mm head) nuts usually badly rusted to the studs which then proceed to turn in the headlamp unit as it is only the plastic that holds the head of the bolt. These are a major PITA.
Might I ask why you need to get behind the indicators? Mike

I think the above two posts are corect for the later post 80 models, but I think your 79 model is different, you can unclip the plastic suround around the headlamp by opening the bonet and removing the plastic clips that are in the slam pannel by pressing down and twisting half a turn (7 along the front, 2 for left light 3 for grill and 2 for right light). The headlight surround can then be giggled out by easing the top forwards, it has two plastic pins on the bottom (be carefull not to breake them off) that push into slots in the metal above the bumper at the bottom of the light. The wiper will need to be pulled 90 degrese of the light. With that removed you will probably be abel to see more of how they are fixed.

On the early 240s it is held by one M6 (10mm) bolt into it the wing and front panel.
