Original toolkit etc
Hi all. Was just wondering what would have come with my car when it was new i.e. toolkit, owners manual, service manual, jack etc?
I have a 1980 owners manual, a volvo owners card, a jack, and a basic toolkit (I think it contains a wheel wrench, a multi screw driver, and something else I cant remember) Should it have come with a service manual as I have no area in my handbook for stamps etc and I have no separate service book? Steve

My original 244DL (a B21A with BW55 autobox, the same colour as yours) came with a tool roll that contained a reversible screwdriver, a box spanner, a 12/13 open-ended spanner and a spoon-bill shaped lever that would have seen me arrested for "going equipped[ for burglary]" had I removed it from the car.
There were no white gloves, though the Exxon Valdez's toolkit contains a pair.

My old 1977 DL had a better jack than that found on my 1991 SE. I'm not sure what it was called, but it was a pillar with a fold out arm that you could raise and lower - the pillar clipped into the jacking point. I transferred it to my SE as I prefer it to the scissor jack that was in the car originally. It's a much more elegant solution in my opinion.
As regards tools, I had (in the 1977) a similar kit Loki's. All housed in a black tool roll. David |

My 240GLT has the original tool kit, I don't think it has ever been used, it also contains a set of white cotton gloves ! I also have a 'Volvo Wheel Changing Kit' which contains plastic gloves, a plastic groundsheet, and a large 'bin bag' to put the damaged tyre into. It is still in the sealed plastic bag it came in.

toolkit
i definately have the full toolkit but dont rememeber what is in it!
from memory i have a screwdriver with lots of bits, a couple of spanners with a bar, a couple of standard 10 mm and 12mm open end spanners, a jack, a bag for the tools and the white gloves i originally thought that the gloves were put in by a previous owner and nearly threw them out:O but have kept them after readlising they were part of it i dont know if this is right but the way i have it all arranged (perhaps diferent in saloons) i have my spare standing up faceing out so you can see the inside of it from boot, then you put the jack in sideways and screw it open so it jams the wheel in place and put tool bag on top. also wheel has an elastic strap over it hope this is of some value? nick

Mine has one of those types of jacks, although I need to check all the neccessary parts are there and work out how to use it. Im sure its easy, its just getting round to it! Quote:
Sounds like this is the exact stuff I should have seen as it came from the same era car and it sounds pretty complete to me! Steve

The pillar jacks are great but a word of warning - only ever use on flat level ground with wheel chocked. I have known them tip over and in certain cases damage the door in the process. Treat them as emergency use only. Great to have though as it completes the correct equipment in the boot.
