Those bumpers are huge! My 164 is an american model and mine aren't quite that big. I've never seen the vertical bumper pieces on a 164 before. Beautiful car though. It looks like the suspension has been modified. The front looks like it is riding a little high.

The bumpers themselves look the same as my '74 164TE but those overriders! The South African spec ones I've seen were a lot more discreet than those on this car (from memory just protruded below the bumpers), but maybe these were an American market option.

Car looks nice though, but if it was mine I'd loose them overriders!

Lovely car.
It might be an `Intercontinental` model.
In Australia it is common to attach `roo` bars on cars if you`re driving long distance.
The intercontinental style was popular in the US from the `50s to the `70s.
The wildlife one may encounter on a rural highway is a bit smaller there - cougars, armadillos and groundhogs etc., than `roos, emus and cattle found in Australia!

"Roo" bars are typically only found on large trucks in the states. To me, these look sort of like a bumper for the bumper. Interesting nonetheless.

I can't say I like the look of the 240 style tail lights that came on the later 164s. What years were these lights offered?

Later 74 and 75 only on the 164 for the US. Plus they were used on the early 264 (up to '79 I think) but never, to my knowledge, OE fitting on any of the 4 cylinder cars.

The 6 segment lamps were fitted to US spec 164's and all the early shape 260's before the rear end was restyled. Uk 164's 140's and 240 had the smaller 4 segment lamps.
