Default official Volvo dash cam?

Has anyone seen this dash cam offered by Volvo Malaysia? Seems to cost around 350 GBP.

The sixth position down: https://www.volvocars.com/my/buy/highlights/accessories

Himmmm. Mounted in exactly the position where Volvo have been saying for years it [B]shouldn't[B] be. In the meanwhile my Thinkware F770 has been fitted there for years without issue.

Still don't know why Volvo don't incorporate one into the 360 camera setup.
In recent years Volvo seems to have lost the plot as far as innovation is concerned

Exactly! The premium German brands are doing this. For some BMWs you can use the 360 cameras as dashcams (extra option), MB has a dashcam accessory that you can select when configuring a new car.

Yeah ... don't get too excited.

My 3 series has that (it's part of the "Technology Plus" pack). To start making a recording you need to go through the menus or holding the camera button down for about 3 seconds. They are at least always running so you can record up to 20 seconds from before you pressed the button.

You can choose between recording either just the front camera, the front and rear cameras or all four. Unfortunately the recording is made with that setting -- you can't take an existing recording and export say just the front camera view. The resolution isn't brilliant, it'll get the numberplate of the car just before it hits you but not much earlier than that, and if you've recorded all four cameras the resolution is even worse.

For recording 40 seconds of "woohoo!" perhaps they're useful, but I certainly wouldn't say they're anywhere near good enough to identify a vehicle doing something they shouldn't be even in excellent visibility. I'm umming and ahhing about a proper dashcam but I'm not in too much of a hurry. (The old-fogey argument of "I've never had one before" is still putting up a good fight!)

Ok, thanks for the real user feedback.
Obviously things that are specifically designed for a task tend to be better at that.
I’m also looking for installing a dash cam in my next Volvo after the accident I had this summer. I know it would have saved me a lot of call phones and lost time between the insurance company and the Police would have I had one then.

As someone who is currently in the process resolving his 2nd 'no blame' accident in 3 years my front/rear dashcam is one of my better buys. In both instances my insurer has unhesitatingly acknowledged my innocence, waved my excess and upgraded my hire car.
When I was replacing the memory card after the latest incident I happened to view the live images, via a tablet, from the dashcam at the same time as the 360 degree images from the car. The car images were slightly better.

I thought dash cams were illegal in Luxembourg?

They are indeed . You can have one as long as it is turned off. I think that Austria and Portugal also ban them.
However I would like to get one as I often travel outside Luxembourg.

I can't understand logic behind banning dashcams. It is there for you safety and insurance purposes. I get that if you public the footage from it you can be charge or penalized fair enough but why it cant be used as my prove that collision wasn't my fault?

I was talking with a guy from OE Witness about a dashcam for my new S60. He told me they have developed one for the new S60 which is different to the old S60.
It is wired and built in to the head unit on the windscreen. Link below.

Would cost £219.00 with £90.00 installation. I am certainly thinking about it as it looks OEM in the car from the photos.
