Default grille removal

How are the grille sections removed on a '62 vintage Amazon? And what's the best clener/polish for aluminum?

Be careful what you use, most aluminum trim parts have a finish on them, such as anodizing which is done with electricity.

Polish can remove this finish and the aluminum dulls quite rapidly without the factory finish.

I clean most metal and painted parts with paint thinner (mineral spirits) and then wax them with a pure wax like Meguire's #26 wax. This may not improve the part's appearance much, but it does protect them and does no harm.

Exposed ali will dull but, much to my surprise, more slowly than I expected. I learnt this from a metal polishing firm who polished the (ali) bumpers (sorry, fenders) on my Lotus Elite. They stayed shiny for months but the car was garaged and not left out in the inclement English climate. After that I used AutoSol which brought back the shine.

I have also started to attack the very dull rear screen trim on my 122 and the AutoSol is bringing that up nicely. Scary as it may sound, you can rub badly dulled ali with 400 or 600 wet and dry and then polish up with AutoSol. It comes up like a mirror if you put the elbow grease into it.

After that some people do lacquer it but it is a pig if it later dulls under the lacquer. Otherwise a wax polish.
