Well, good news and bad really..... Got the separator off without any problems (it's completely different from you turbo guys' separator and nice and easy to remove), just to find that all the pipework was good and unblocked along with the separator itself..... Still, that's one less job to do.

Hi all, sorry to be a little dense, does this apply to the V70 t5 Classic aswell, or was this system type only on the 850 series?

If so mine is now on 174k and I don't think it has been done if the system is the same.

Hi,

you might get away with cleaning the oil separator, but the pipes need changing because they get very brittle with age.

If your V70 Classic has the ME7 ignition system with the electronic throttle (like mine), then it's not quite the same - it's more complicated, of course!
The inlet manifold on the ME7 cars is very different and, as I've read in other threads on this forum, has a PCV nipple on the underside of the inlet manifold that is kept warm with coolant fed from the thermostat housing. Inside the neoprene covered breather tube assembly is a third pipe - a metal coolant pipe - that takes the water from the nipple to the back of the block. So the parts you will need are completely different, but the principle is essentially the same, although it must involve the draining of coolant at some point.
As the Haynes manual for the 97-99 cars fails to mention any of this, and only shows the pre-ME7 inlet manifold, I've no idea how to disconnect this heated pcv nipple from the underside of the manifold. Perhaps someone knows? It's a job I need to do but am putting off until I've worked out how to best tackle it.

Absolutely....
the catch tank could be cleaned with parafin but considering the cost its not worth it
cheers

My Car is 1998 so this whole procedure applies, I will plan this in the next few weeks.

If I want to go the samco way, whats the internal mm hose sizes I might need. I have plenty of 4mm in the garage but do I need other sizes?

Hi,

I think 4mm will do. I replaced all my hoses whilst doing this job with 4mm Samco. This included the 3 hoses to/from the Boost Controller Solenoid (on the side of the air filter) and the hose from the inlet manifold to the re-circ valve on the turbo.

I've since replaced the re-circ with a dump valve but that's by-the-by, as the hose is still required - just re-routed to the end of the dump valve instead.

Cheers, Pete
