Sometimes diplomacy just doesn't have the desired effect. Just for the record, I never played with the truants, I just fell asleep in that class.
And just how would you have phrased it differently?

Well, We just pulled a bunch of codes from stuarts T5. He will list them up here when he gets back. Strangely, I thought all 20V T5s were OBD2 compliant, but alas no. I pulled the codes using the LED flasher. Coincidentally, it only works out stuarts T5 is from the same village I'm from and I know his in-laws and he visits there regularly. My mate also fixed the dodgy solder job when it was chipped a few years ago. It's a small world.

Hi guys. As Brian said we pulled some codes earlier which are as follows: -

from the ECU -

1-2-3 Engine Coolant Temperature sensor absent or faulty.
5-4-1 Evap valve fault
5-1-4 Engine cooling fan faulty at half speed

I know that it is bringing a cooling fan fault, as there was a issue with one of the live feeds to the cooling fan which i have bypassed with another live feed, so the cooling fans are working fine.

from the Electroni Climate Control -

2-3-1 Ventalation damper motor position sensor open circuit or shorted to 12volts
4-1-4 Drivers side interior temperature sensor inlet fan seized.
4-1-7 Passenger side interior temperature sensor inlet fan seized
2-1-1 Drivers side damper motor position sensor open circuit or shorted to 12volts

Everything with my climate control seems to work fine though. Could these codes all be old codes which have not been cleared yet?
Also could somebody send me a diagram to show me where all the earthing points of the engine are as i am going to look at all the engine earth straps tomorrow, but would like to know where they are all positioned, just to help make life a bit easier you know.

Kind Regards
Stuart

is it possible the faulty coolant temp sensor is sending a spurious signal to the ecu which reacts by increasing injector dwell etc to enrich the mixture for a "cold" start

I have thought about that chow, but i would have thought that even if the ecu did enrich the mixture that it would at least still allow the car to spark, so i am thinking more on the bad earth side and electrical interferance from the starter motor, as i dont think the ecu is picking up the camshaft signal or rpm signal when trying to crank becuase of electrical interferance from the starter motor, although it is difficult to prove it. The car starts first time with a push or a two, which is eliminating only the starter motor and assosiated wiring, so it must be something on these lines that is cuasing my starting issues.

Given the number and range of components replaced already, including I believe the ECT sensor, I'd agree that it does sound like a wiring problem, earthing or otherwise.
