Default Rumours of HU-850 affecting alarm, start up etc

Hi

My volvo 2005 is poor at FM/AM reception so my plan of using a bluetooth FM transmitter is 985 worthless

I bought a 2 DIN stereo and was going to replace it but have heard from various people that the stereo is tied into a lot of the electricals of the car, the alarm, start up and others.

Is this true?

If so I think my only next option is to try a GROM unit but as I have the stereo thought it best to double check.

Cheers

I swapped out my hu650 for a kenwood 2din unit. Parking sensors and steering wheel controls wont work without an adapter box.
I got mine from Volvotech, gives steering wheel controls, has a beeper for the parking sensors, gives outputs for reverse, speed, lights etc. Pretty much plug and play. All other electrics still work fine.

I very much doubt this. although you cannot lock the car if you disconnect the climate unit while working on it / installing new radio.

Hi. Where did you get the 2DIN unit from and what is the box that allows the parking sensors and steering wheel controls to work. Did it affect the Cruise control at all?
Thanks
Jez

I can confirm that cruise control is unaffected by the radio (or lack of) - I now have a non-Volvo 2DIN stereo and cruise control works perfectly. Didn't bother with the CANBUS adapter so the volume/skip buttons on the other side of the steering wheel don't function but there are no other issues whatsoever (I don't have parking sensors.)

I never actually installed mine.

Randomly, in January my signal seemed to be improved and I tend to get a signal now for my bluetooth to use.

When I don't I just use a bluetooth speaker sat in my drinks compartment. Actualy does the trick, all I want to listen to is DAB anyway so the standard FM /AM functions is of no use to me.
