2007 XC90 D5 Help request
Hello everyone. I need some help to fix up my car.
I have been owning this car for 4 years now and its starting to have some problems. It is a 2007 XC90 automatic 6 speed D5 (185hp) with currently 220.000 km (136.701 miles) Currently It has 2 main problem and I hope one smaller issue. The car has been serviced properly in the last 4 years. First problem is that during mid/hard acceleration if the weel turned even just a little bit it makes a weird deep grinding sound. Almost like a bad shaft but its feels like its on both side under the center console. The driveshaft just has been replaced to a new one so that cant be. Second problem is since I have replaced the transmission oil with 2 flushes it has started doing floating rpm and when flooring it it goes neutral and then shifts really hard like a kick. I guess its a new valvebody? The other smaller problem that it has started leaking oil from the back side of the engine and the turbo pipe is really oily. And also some small oil spots in the front of the engine around the PCV system but I just changed the PCV valve and all of its seal. Thanks in advance and sorry for my english I hope it was understandable. I can also provide pictures if needed. |

Have these issues started since you undertook the fluid change?

Original Volvo transmission oil for automatic. Firstly I drove the car for a while until it was warmed up. Then drained the oil from it. Around 4 liters came out. After that I refilled it with a little bit more than that. Drove it around for 20-30 mins and then took off the plug to see if I have overfilled it or under.. A really small amount came out and thats it.

Did you reset the gearbox oil counter using vida? I believe the gearbox profile changes as the oil degrades so when the oil is changed you must reset the counter so that it knows it is running on clean oil and can change how it behaves.
Also it usually takes several drain and fills to remove the majority of the old oil, perhaps the 1 drain and fill was not enough. I'd suggest doing a few more drain and fill when you get vida and resetting the counter to see if that improves anything, plus vida will tell you any other faults that are flagging up with the gearbox too. |

When you remove the centre screw to check the level you must have the engine running be on level ground and the gearbox oil needs to be warm (around 50c IIRC)
If you set the level without the engine running it will be low on oil.

So the oil on the turbo pipe was the resonator seal being split in two both upper and lower so I replaced them and now its seems fine so far.
The grinding sound turned out to be the right lower engine mount which is weird because its seemed okay. I havent touched the transmission so far because of lack of free time. Next week im gonna change the swirl because vida had a code for them and also gonna change transmission oil but this time im gonna use vida |

What might help is if he clears the transmission adaptation memory.
